It is said that marriages are made in heaven. But to make them worth remembering, a high level of planning is essential. Managing weddings is indeed an art in itself. Recently I visited Pakistan to manage a client’s wedding. Initially I was apprehensive about visiting the country owing to the long lasting political instability there. But I was persuaded by my boss to manage the wedding.
We landed at the Faisalabad International Airport in the afternoon. From there, we boarded a Karachi bound flight of PIA Airlines. The Jinnah International Airport has been modernised over the years and includes two lounges-the CIP Lounge and Barclays Premier Airport Lounge. The presence of baggage trolleys helped us to complete the checkout process smoothly. We had to exchange our currency notes before renting a car to reach the client’s residence. Here are some of the major highlights of our Karachi trip: -
Visiting the different landmarks across Karachi
During the first four days, we were busy with the planning and decoration for the marriage. After the marriage was over, we still had a day in our hand. So, to provide a perfect ending to our visit we decided to tour the major landmarks of Karachi. The starting point of our sightseeing was Bhambhore.
The archaeological site is located at a short distance from Karachi. It is widely regarded as the ancient port of Debul. Debul was the first military outpost captured by Muhammad Bin Qasim during his campaign against Raja Dahir. The site has a museum, the remains of a dilapidated mosque and a few other archeological remains.
The Mazar-e-Quaid is a tomb dedicated to Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. Constructed in the 1960s, it is also called National Mausoleum. The graves of Quaid-e-Millat Liaqat Ali Khan, Pakistan’s first Prime Minister and Quaid’s sister Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah are located in the vicinity.
The Clifton Beach is one of the most popular tourist attractions here. We enjoyed both horse ride and camel ride on the beach before heading back to the city for lunch.

Having a taste of Pakistani cuisine
During the afternoon, we checked into a restaurant which offered a wide range of Pakistani delicacies. The Chicken Sajji was a Baluchi dish which we relished the most. Prepared by marinating the chicken with garlic paste, chillies and lemon, the barbecued dish had a unique fragrance. We completed our lunch with Mutton Bhuna Gosht. The mutton cubes were cooked with milk, yoghurt and spices. The papaya paste applied on the mutton pieces gave them a unique taste. We enjoyed this meat based dish with jeera rice.
Major recollections of the trip
The Pakistanis in general are warm hearted people. We were surprised by the way we were greeted across Karachi during our short sojourn. The pictures which we took of the different tourist landmarks now form a part of my personal album. It will remain one of the unique adventures of my life.
